Non-Operational Images

Non-Operational Images is a screen-based participatory installation built from short video-testimonies recorded by anonymous civilians in Mexico during situations of extreme violence.

The work is grounded in Mexico’s ongoing crisis of violence and disappearance, where more than 130,000 people are disappeared or missing.

The recordings are often unstable, compressed, and difficult to read visually. Their force comes from the circumstances of recording: testimonies made by individuals with mobile phones under conditions of danger.
