Vis.[un]necessary force_3 (V.[u]nf_3) is an artistic-social project developed with Las Rastreadoras de El Fuerte. It explores collaborative and participatory audiovisual cyber-cartography for mobile systems and web data visualisation. Its material outcomes include the two-channel documentary February 19, 2019 and an infographic timeline produced in 2022. The installation was presented in the 2024 exhibition in Poznań.
Prix Ars Electronica 2020. Honorary Mention. Category Digital Communities.
Conceived as a tool and online space for documenting search expeditions, V.[u]nf_3 was developed as a functional prototype for iOS and Android and tested in a workshop with Las Rastreadoras de El Fuerte in 2019. The app registered text, audio, video, and geolocation data, while the website was designed to archive, visualise, and systematise the material recorded as an individual and collective cartography of the search.
The project was intended to strengthen community agency through documentation, shared review of recorded material, and the creation of an expedition archive and digital memorial against oblivion and institutional neglect. Its development was abruptly cut short after the 2019 fieldwork and prototype implementation: the COVID pandemic prevented my return to the city of Los Mochis, which made it impossible to complete the project under the conditions originally envisioned.
With deep appreciation to Mirna Medina, founder of Rastreadoras de El Fuerte and to all members of Rastreadoras in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico, who are searching for their relatives, victims of forced disappearance.
